Are you Ready to Schedule a Documentary Family Photo Session?
FAMILY COMES FIRST - Recently, some of our England family photojournalists have communicated their readiness to work with families who are able to carry on with their normal life and who want it documented. Family Photojournalist Association professional members offer a distinct and natural style of unobtrusive photography that will capture genuine, candid moments of you, your children, and even extended family enjoying time together...everyone gets in the pictures and you will likely forget the photographer is even there.
The purpose of reportage family photography is to tell a story — your story. You will be able to feel the love that you have for one another in the images. You will see the beauty that results when you are not posed or directed by your photographer to sit in a contrived position and smile on command at the camera. The FPJA has an abundance of top-ranked, Dorset family photographers who are available right now. Find yours today!

Hi! I’m Rose and I have three young children, two pesky cats, and one very patient husband and we all live together near Bath. I absolutely love the fun of having young children, but I also know how very tiring and testing this time can be. I often have moments looking at my small people when I just wish I could freeze time, bottle their cuteness and remember how these moments feel: admiring the gorgeous squishy-ness of my toddler; looking into the joyous face of my pre-schooler as he dances with no inhibitions; being outwitted by my 8-year-old negotiating on pocket money. Photography is my way of recording all these precious stages in our lives, just a little bit – for myself, my children, and for other families. I love to capture the real moments, as you live them. The joy, the tears, the love, the raw emotions. Doing what you normally do. How you normally do it. I want an image to take you right back to that time in your life, and how it felt to be there. Your little family. Just as you are.
Hi there! My name is Jess. And I am a documentary family photographer from Bath, UK. And to put it simply, I adore photographing people. Babies, children, adults, elderly people, you name it, whoever you are, I want to take your picture. I live with my wonderful husband and my two beautiful boys, 4-year-old Edward and baby Rex who is 9 months. And of course, we mustn’t forget our feisty cat Agatha, who is a little forgotten now since the children arrived (sorry Ags!). I have a BA(Hons) in Fine Art from Edinburgh College of Art. During my degree, I spent 6 months on an exchange programme at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence USA, where I studied Painting, Art History, and Documentary Photography. My short time living in America was really where my love of photography was born and has continued to grow and develop over the last 12 years. After I graduated I worked in the art world for a number of years at a contemporary auction house and then onto a modern and contemporary private gallery. It was during my time at this gallery that I was asked to curate their first photography show (having only exhibited painting and sculpture up to this point). The exhibition was called ‘With A Conscious Eye’ involving three different documentary photographers. It was this exhibition and working with these photographers that really confirmed for me that documentary photography was a genre that inspired me the most and one I wanted to explore more. After I became a Mum I didn't realise I would find so much inspiration in all the smaller life moments with my child; the ordinary, day-to-day stuff. And only a few months into my new motherhood journey I had this urge to document our real life, in all its gritty, raw, struggling beauty. Every day, ordinary, mundane life. So that one day I can look back and know exactly what our life was like at that moment of our lives. Not us posing in a studio or with a scenic backdrop, wearing beautiful outfits with freshly washed hair. No enhancements to try and make our lives look ‘better’ or our family to look ‘picture perfect’. A real snapshot of a real family living their actual life. My approach is a mixture of documentary and fine art portraiture to create a series of beautiful images that tell the story of your family. I promise you will feel at ease in my company and there will be zero awkward posing. There is so much beauty in normal life. Let's create some art together.

Dorset Birth Sessions at Home or Hospital
The birth of your child is an experience that is filled with both beauty and chaos. It’s a moment in time that you won’t want to forget, yet it’s an experience in which the details may fade away in the coming weeks, months and years. To capture the first moments in which you meet your baby and those first special hours together, you should enlist the help of a Dorset documentary birth photographer. An experienced family photographer who specializes in documentary birth sessions will be able to capture your labor journey, the birth experience and the immediate reaction that you have when you see your baby’s face for the first time — all while respecting your space. The right photographer will be able to use discretion while focusing on the fleeting moments that you will want to remember from your birth experience. Whether you plan to give birth at home or at the hospital, you can book a documentary birth session with a professional reportage-style birth photographer.
