My work focuses on the joy and wonder that come with exploration and showing family members how they love and are loved by others. I listen more than I talk and find people completely fascinating, so I try to show this through my photos. Apart from being the owner of Moment.us Photography, I'm a wife, cook, traveler, bibliophile, and prosecco drinker, and I'm a master at rationalising the decision to have cake for breakfast. I'm based in Cornwall, ON but have dual citizenship with the UK, and try to travel over there - and elsewhere - at least twice a year. My own love for exploring our world means that I'm drawn to making photos that show what happens when we engage with the people and the world around us. I shoot from the heart and try to show each of my families what the soul of their family looks like through allllll the mood swings of childhood. I dig families who show tenderness and glee, but also mischief - it's not uncommon to hear me giggling quietly behind my camera while someone gets themselves into trouble. Parents with wry humour and a realistic outlook on what it's like to survive the chaos of childhood while their children run around in mismatched (or absent) clothes? They're my favourite. Parenthood is TOUGH. So, I try to honour parents by showing them compassionate and humorous little reminders of the fact that they're doing their best to keep their tiny (and not-so-tiny) humans alive and every day.
I was born in Bulgaria, and have lived in the United Kingdom, Saskatchewan, Toronto, and the Netherlands. Before becoming a family photographer, I was a parenting scientist. I got a PhD, analyzing thousands of mothers playing with their babies and I learned to notice tiny changes in facial expressions, small movements, and family dynamics. These are important to my photography today. I now live on an acreage near Kingston, with my husband, three children, and a menagerie of animals. My days are spent with the crow of roosters out the window, while I drink ALL the coffee and spread the joy of loving your life, loving your real self, and being forgiving of yourself as a parent.
My career as a working photographer began when I was a journalist. It often occurred that I would abandon the pen in favour of the camera, in order to adequately express my need to tell stories through photos. I feel very privileged to ‘tell the story’ of memorable moments of your life, capturing all the beauty and authenticity of your environment, while enjoying the freedom of expression and creativity that I experience through photography.
