Are you Ready to Schedule a Documentary Family Photo Session?
FAMILY COMES FIRST - Recently, some of our United States family photojournalists have communicated their readiness to work with families who are able to carry on with their normal life and who want it documented. Family Photojournalist Association professional members offer a distinct and natural style of unobtrusive photography that will capture genuine, candid moments of you, your children, and even extended family enjoying time together...everyone gets in the pictures and you will likely forget the photographer is even there.
The purpose of reportage family photography is to tell a story — your story. You will be able to feel the love that you have for one another in the images. You will see the beauty that results when you are not posed or directed by your photographer to sit in a contrived position and smile on command at the camera. The FPJA has an abundance of top-ranked, West Virginia family photographers who are available right now. Find yours today!

My focus is on small moments between friends and lovers, the split seconds of joy, intimacy, and authenticity that deserve to be memories but are often missed by more classic photographers. I let my work provide a window into the most meaningful moments of your family and/or wedding, those that you’ll witness and those that you won’t, and I celebrate your journey beyond. As a photojournalist, I have won many international photo competitions, and have been selected for many collective exhibitions in Paris, Great Britain, and Finland. My personal work is an important part of my photography skills.
I'm tired of fake, counterfeit images of lives on social media. Aren't you? As a photographer, I am drawn to the realness of life in all its raw beauty. My family means everything to me, and I know yours means everything to you too. Still, it's so easy to see the perfectly scripted moments others choose to show us of their lives on the internet and wish our lives were as together as theirs. With my camera, I tell true stories. I seek to highlight the value families have just being themselves in a culture where everyone wants them to be anything but authentic. If all your children ever see on your walls are pictures of them on their best behavior in matchy clothes they would never choose to wear on their own, what message are you sending? Instead, fill your walls with their authentic, raw, unruly, radiant selves and fill their hearts with the bold truth that you love all of them... every moment of every day. My name is Joan Willow and I am a wife, homeschooling parent, photographer, and writer. I am also a full-time biology student! I wear many hats... but my favorite hat is the one I have worn for over 15 years - Mother. I know full well how fleeting childhood is. It has been the bittersweet joy of my life to watch my baby sons grow up into young men before my very heart. With my camera, I am able to freeze time so that I can relive every real moment of it all. I enjoy helping families preserve those everyday moments too. I'd love the opportunity to tell your story through images I know you will cherish for the rest of your life.

West Virginia Birth Sessions at Home or Hospital
The birth of your child is an experience that is filled with both beauty and chaos. It’s a moment in time that you won’t want to forget, yet it’s an experience in which the details may fade away in the coming weeks, months and years. To capture the first moments in which you meet your baby and those first special hours together, you should enlist the help of a West Virginia documentary birth photographer. An experienced family photographer who specializes in documentary birth sessions will be able to capture your labor journey, the birth experience and the immediate reaction that you have when you see your baby’s face for the first time — all while respecting your space. The right photographer will be able to use discretion while focusing on the fleeting moments that you will want to remember from your birth experience. Whether you plan to give birth at home or at the hospital, you can book a documentary birth session with a professional reportage-style birth photographer.
