Documentary Family Photography for Flanders, Belgium
Are you Ready to Schedule a Documentary Family Photo Session?
FAMILY COMES FIRST - Recently, some of our Belgium family photojournalists have communicated their readiness to work with families who are able to carry on with their normal life and who want it documented. Family Photojournalist Association professional members offer a distinct and natural style of unobtrusive photography that will capture genuine, candid moments of you, your children, and even extended family enjoying time together...everyone gets in the pictures and you will likely forget the photographer is even there.
The purpose of documentary family photography is to tell a story — your story. You will be able to feel the love that you have for one another in the images. You will see the beauty that results when you are not posed or directed by your photographer to sit in a contrived position and smile on command at the camera. The FPJA has an abundance of top-ranked, Flanders family photographers who are available right now. Find yours today!

I was born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium. At a young age, I received my first camera as a birthday gift. Immediately, I started making pictures of everything and everybody around me. And I never stopped :) Now, being a father of two, I truly see the power of family photography. Not the posed portraits, that don't have any emotion in them, but the real moments. Moments that are not always beautiful (strawberries on a white rug, tantrums in the bathtub,...) but that I want to remember when my kids will be all grown up. Moments that show how a family sticks together, loves and comforts each other. And that's exactly what I want to give my clients.
By taking pictures of my sons, the value of small everyday moments became and becomes really clear to me. I photograph them during game and mischief, during fun moments and crying parties, during fraternization and quarrels. These pictures say so much about them and their personality that I am sure that they will cherish these memories the most later. I also want to realize these memories with you. I live and work in Landegem near Ghent, but as a photographer, I come everywhere. A trip abroad is also perfectly possible.
Photography and people are Joshua’s two greatest passions. Utterly curious – a nice legacy she got from her grandmother – she loves to meet new people, observe them and capture what they are all about. She is both outgoing and calm so to make everyone feel at ease. Very patient, she has a special radar for shenanigans. Her goal is to document small but great moments that might otherwise go unnoticed, to capture the moment just as it felt that day. She is a visual storyteller. Mostly self-taught, she has been a professional photographer for the last 11 years, full time since 2013. She is based in Antwerp, Belgium, and travels in (and sometimes out) Europe for Family, Day in the Life sessions and Weddings. She is at her best when shooting true, unstaged and profound moments and events – in a relaxed atmosphere.
In 2007 I graduated as a photographer at the Media and Design Academy in Genk. I am established as a photographer in Limburg and more specifically Hasselt, but I work throughout Flanders and far beyond! Since I am the father of two fantastic daughters and son I also like to make portraits of children and babies. This way you can book a "Day in the Life" session with me. At a Day In The Life session, I walk with your family for half a day or a whole day. I photograph you as you are at that moment and follow you in the ordinary things of the day. That means that we do what you want. Standing along the line on the football field, eating pancakes after a refreshing walk through the woods, staring out the window, playing mischief, going to grandpa and grandma, putting on princess dresses with girlfriends, ...
I photograph as I paint and that is quite dark. I love melancholy, light, love, and self-mockery. From Sally Mann, Tim Burton, Lars von Trier & Darren Aronofsky. But also of honesty, purity, and serenity ... I am an old soul and have been swimming quite a lot. That made me a very positive person with a lot of perseverance. I am always cheerful and smiley and have an incredible amount of patience for everything and everyone - except myself;) An extroverted introvert, very insecure alongside my self-assured me. Always looking for people who see the world as I see it: beautiful, wonderful, tolerant, and therefore entirely for everyone. I take your photos, your memories and that is why I think it is very important that you feel addressed to who I am. Only with whom you feel good can you let go of everything and be yourself.
Of course, I am passionate about family photography! You notice that when you see me working professionally. What do you get to see? A professional photographer who works professionally and efficiently, who knows how to behave correctly in every situation and who discreetly moves to take sneaky and almost invisible beautiful pictures for you. Someone who does not shy away from crawling or lying on the ground with one goal: the ideal photo. But behind the family photographer, there is also a person with his own personality. After all, you know who you can expect on the other side of the camera when you book me. Anyone can take photos, but to create images that are really overflowing with emotion, you have to be particularly comfortable with the lens and that is only possible if it clicks not only on the camera but also between us!
I have been walking around with a camera for as long as I know. First with a disposable device, then a digital device. Since 2016 I have really started to immerse myself in family photography and I followed the first training and bought an SLR camera, but the fear of the unknown and especially of not being good enough stopped me until the end of 2020 from really making family photography my profession. to make. The leap was taken, I did more training, did my first shoots and it made me a different person! It is wonderful to be able to capture all those small and large moments on the image.
A moment enjoyer. That's me. I like small, spontaneous moments. People around me also know me as a perfectionist, beautifier, dreamer, mood sensor and loyal friend. I adore black and white, the spring sun on my face, vanilla lattes, dates with my sister friends, picnics by the lake, Italy, giving presents, museums on Sundays, perfume when I wake up and go to sleep, unpacking new clothes wrapped in a tissue paper, flipping through magazines, chocolate, surprises and weekends away. Love my family. I am a Graphic Designer and Illustrator and I still like to do that. I always aim high, mediocrity is not good enough. I'm a teacher in Graphic Design and Photography, I like to share everything I know and experience on my creative path, the good and the bad. Photography started as a hobby, with my youngest daughter as a model. A few years ago I had to learn to invest in myself and above all to continue to do so. Photography brings me tranquility, challenge and wonder. And I meet inspiring people all the time. I love making memories. Love capturing them. Share them. Making people happy with my work. That one typical glance or point of view makes my heart skip a beat while editing.
Friends tell me I am a man with many hobbies. "You do everything, don't you?" Well, I can't deny that. I have a curious mind and I try a lot of different things and some things stick with me. That's how I started skateboarding, (wind)surfing, riding a motorcycle, learned to fix this motorcycle, and rebuild an old moped. Broadening my mind and learning different skills is what gives me energy. However varied these hobbies might seem, what I experience by mastering new skills is the rough, pure, and real sense of life. Jumping off a curb with your skateboard has something pure. No focus and you will fall, too tense and you will fall, a foggy head, and you will fall. This means there has to be some kind of balance between focus and relaxation. Unimportant elements of the day will disappear into the background and you only live this very moment, and that is 'real'. With my photography, I am looking for these pure and real moments. When I take pictures, I capture life how it is and goes. This means that in a family shoot everyone is allowed to decide for themselves what they wear that day, or how tidy the house is. Life consists of so many things that have to be done, that are supposed to be or that are not allowed. Leave it! Let it flow, it doesn't matter, beautiful moments arise everywhere, I'll capture them.
